Phototherapy

My Nursing Coach is among the first to provide innovative in-home phototherapy services using the BiliBed® by Medela. This unique treatment is designed to reduce or eliminate the need for an infant to remain in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for treatment of jaundice after the mother is discharged.

The Medela Bilibed distributes UV light to the infant’s back to treat hyperbilirubinemia (jaundice).

In-Home Phototherapy is a Viable Alternative to Hospital Care for Newborns with Jaundice

Baby Friendly: In-home care increases breastfeeding rates and bonding time.

Easy to Use: Infant wears a disposable Bilicombi jacket, and duration of therapy can be monitored with a meter on the BiliBed unit.

Cost-Effective: Outpatient services minimize hospital costs and free staff to treat more critical patients. In-home treatment is complete in 2-4 days.

Safe and Efficient: BiliBed is equipped with a blue fluorescent tube and UV light is precisely directed at a distance that ensures outstanding therapeutic results.

Infant Comfort: Baby lies on a silicon film mattress with light projected from below. Clinical tests have shown that the baby feels comfortable (meets AAP guidelines) and the need for uncomfortable eye protection is eliminated.

How It Works

Under a physician’s direction, My Nursing Coach will make a house call to deliver and set up a BiliBed, and supply any necessary accessories. We provide instruction to the parents on use of the equipment and care for an infant undergoing phototherapy. We can assist with breastfeeding, and answer any questions or concerns parents may have regarding the care of their newborn. We also offer the convenience of Transcutaneous Bilirubinometry via Bilichek, which measures the course of therapy without the need to draw blood samples.
