Frequently Asked Questions

My Nursing Coach will send one of our esteemed lactation consultants to your home. All of our consultants are IBCLCs (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant). IBCLCs provide clinical lactation care to the highest standards and have had years — if not decades — of lactation consulting experience. All of our IBCLCs maintain up-to-date professional memberships,  meet yearly industry-wide continuing education requirements, and independently stay abreast of “what’s new?” in lactation research.” To find out more about our team, click here.

The IBCLC will arrive on time to your home. If there are any challenges with parking, she will call you. Your consultant will bring a clinical-grade infant scale, a breastfeeding pillow, and a collection of breastfeeding products and gear to sample and purchase (we like to call this our “magic bag of tricks”). She will review your medical history, listen to your infant feeding concerns, and discuss your breastfeeding and personal health goals. Your IBCLC will help you through a full feeding session and address issues that you are having. Your baby will be weighed on an infant scale before and after a feeding, so you’ll know exactly how much milk baby was able to get at the feeding. Together, you and your IBCLC will come up with a plan of care for you to implement over the next 48-72 hours to help you get back on the right track to meet your breastfeeding goals. You may wish to ask questions regarding pumping, healing, positioning, supplementing, baby behavior, etc.

Breastfeeding issues can be very frustrating for new moms, we understand! We try to schedule appointments to best accommodate mom and baby, usually for a time within 48 hours of a request, and within 24 hours in emergent cases.

Yes and No. My Nursing Coach and Mahmee do not contract with any insurance companies. You will need to pay for your visit in full, but your IBCLC will give you an itemized receipt (referred to as a superbill) that you may submit to your insurance for reimbursement. If you have questions about whether your consult will be covered, please call your insurance company to see if this is a reimbursable benefit.

Your IBCLC will follow-up by phone after she sees you to discuss your plan of care and answer any questions you may have. In addition, after your consult, you will be able to access online support through the patient portal, Mahmee.com. All of our IBCLCs are available for follow-up consults (phone, video, or in-home), plus field questions and lead classes through Mahmee.com.
